2nd TRANSNATIONAL MEETING IN HERAKLION

The 2nd transnational meeting of the Erasmus + European project "Bon appétit" took place in Crete and in the 13th Gymnasium of Heraklion from 6th to 10th May 2019. More specifically, 15 students and 12 teachers from Italy, Spain and Portugal met the Cretan hospitality and the Greek culture.

Bread-making workshop

The 13th Gymnasium welcomed all the participants on Monday, May 6th, when all the planned activities of the project began. The day started with the welcome of teachers and students and continued with ice-breaking games, guided tour in the school, presentations of each country's educational system, and preparation of the exhibition with posters and paintings created by the students. Finally, a bread-making workshop under the guidance of an expert was held in the classroom. The day ended with music and dance at the school, accompanied with plenty of Cretan cuisine prepared by the Greek parents.

Pottery workshop

On Tuesday 7 May, an excursion took place in Margarites, Rethymnon. There, the participating students learned about pottery art and tried to make their own clay pots. The visit to Margarites was followed by a visit to the city of Rethymnon and a demonstration of homemade leaf preparation in a pastry shop.

At Knossos Palace

On the 3rd day the appointment was given to the palace of Knossos, where the participants had a guided tour. The whole team continued its excursion by taking the boat to Spinalonga and then to Agios Nikolaos. On the way back, they enjoyed a visit to the Aquarium of Crete and a relaxing walk to the beach of Gouves.

At the archeological museum of Heraklion

On Thursday, the participants admired the treasures of the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion and walked in the city center. After the visit, a treasure hunt was organized during which the students met the most important monuments and sites of Heraklion. Afterwards, they went to the Natural History Museum and strolled across the coastal front of the city. In the evening, students, parents and teachers had fun with the music of the Cretan band at school and danced Cretan traditional dances.

The program was accomplished with classroom activities, where students presented the most important dishes of their place, talked about an artist of their country and his work on food theme. They made puzzles out of cereal packs and they painted on wooden spoons. Finally, they exhibited constructions made by themselves using recyclable materials that everyone can find everyday in a kitchen.

All the participants had a great time, they had fun and of course an unforgettable experience of life. The appointment was renewed for the “Bon Appétit” teams in October when they meet again in Faro of Portugal.

Thank you very much Erasmus + for this unique experience!!!
