SCENE 1: The “drug” dealer meets Andy in a secret place
Dealer: Well dude, I got exactly what you asked for... The chips, one Coca cola, one donut and last but not least…one burger.
Andy: Well, buddy, you save me, you are the best!
Dealer: You’re welcome. But let me ask you something. How did you get involved with this bad situation? you’re a small kid!
Andy: Well, I am fed up with apples and carrots and all that ... healthy things. A few days ago, a classmate of mine gave me secretly a potato chip…he had bought it from you…so I tasted and I got crazy! I realized that all what we eat in this city are not tasty at all, they do not offer the same pleasure as all these goodies you have here! That’s why I thought that I have to talk to you…
Dealer: ok, ok ... but be careful not to get caught because if they catch you there will be punishments ... (he points to a sign saying “junk food forbidden”) …and don't forget, I don't know you, you don't know me ...
Anti: yes of course, don’t worry…stay calm. (he takes out of his pocket 20 euros)
(At that time a policeman walks through the alley and watches the whole scene. Full of curiosity, he comes to see what is happening. Then, the dealer looks at the policeman, and frightened, he starts running, but Andy has seen nothing.)
Andy: Hey! Why are you running? I didn’t have the time to…
(The policeman coughs while he is right behind him. Andy turns slowly ...)
Andy: -…(talking to the dealer) .give you the money…. (Talking to himself) OH! What the hell? Run Andy, run!
Policeman: Hey, you! Come here now! (And he starts chasing him, until he reaches him and catches him)
Scene 2 (Andy, the drug dealer and the police officer to the Court )
(The trial begins) The police officer - witness of the charge brings the defendant into the courtroom and is followed by his lawyer. They all take their respective positions in the courtroom. The officer speaks with his lawyer and generally prevails.
Bailiff: Quiet in the court please! All rise. Department One of the Superior Court is now in session. Judge Iamdoingeverythingright presiding. Please be seated.
Judge Iamdoingeverythingright: Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Calling the case of the People of the State of Los Vitaminos versus Andy Delavegas Garcia. Are both sides ready? !! Our trial begins. (pause)
Well .. (he looks at his papers). From what I see, Mister Andy Delavegas Garcia is accused of possessing illegal substances and food. More specifically, according to the testimony of the witness and police officer, representing the State Mr Fatman, a bag containing a burger, a coca cola, a donut and a bag of potato chips were found in the possession of the accused. As stated in the Low 1, Article 14, paragraph 3, such an act is not acceptable and it is punishable by a sentence of 2 years in prison or 3 years of voluntary work. In this case, of course, since we have to do with a 14-year-old child and according to children's rights, the imprisonment of minors is prohibited. Now, his defender can speak.
The defender lawyer: Your Honor, I have to admit that my client's act was disgusting and illegal of course… but before we examine his act, please allow me to present my client…First of all, we must not forget that we have to do with a teenager who is a very good student at school, he lives with his peaceful family, which has never caused any trouble to anyone in the neighborhood or the whole society …According to our investigation, his family has NEVER, Never bought junk food and never tried bad aliments…Plus, Andy’s classmates told us that he always brings his homemade lunch at school. His teachers have never noticed something unusual…and of course according to the blood test results not a single gram of bad fat has been detected in his body… This is why I strongly believe that my client is totally innocent and we have to face him as a 14year old kid who at this age wants to try and experiment with the taste.
Judge Iamdoingeverythingright : Obviously, this is understood, but still, we are talking about breaking the law. Unhealthy foods are totally banned for the good of all citizens in order to avoid any illnesses that have plagued humans for many decades, such as heart failure, obesity, high blood pressure and more, with the hope that longevity will win.
Andy: But your honor, it was only once, ONLY ONCE! And I didn’t have the time to eat it at all!!!
Judge: Only one time can be dangerous!!!
The dealer: Your Honor, let’s be honest!!! Haven’t you ever tried? I don’t know if you have ever had the chance to try this kind of food, but you know that it is sooooo tasty and difficult to resist, it’s like an addiction! This food is sooooooo tasty!!!!! And I really don’t understand!!! I believe it is a shame to completely deprive us of such a pleasure!
Policeman: Your honor, don't listen to these criminals!!! They are very wicked and especially the kid…
Defendant’s Lawyer: Hey Sir, who talked to you?
Police Officer: By myself, is there a problem?
Lawyer: yes.
Policeman: As I was saying, the small kid was fooling me right in front of my eyes, Mr. President.
Judge: I am a Judge, sir ..
Police officer: As I was saying, he lied and then he tried to run away…
Lawyer: and why is that a problem mister…Fatman? Maybe because you are not fit? Should we probably judge you instead of my client? It is supposed that healthy eating habits go hand in hand with physical exercise. And my client , who is accused right now, is very fit.
Andy: He is right .. I am excellent in Gymnastics. I’ve got an A in Gymnastics.
Policeman: My physical condition is not your business. Do not change subject now.
Judge: Please gentlemen, we are in the courtroom.
Lawyer: But I can't hear this man judging my client, this man who hasn’t stepped into a gym since the year before last... sorry, Mr President ...
judge: I say I am a JUDGE sir, not a president!
Andy: Ah, your honor, can we make it faster because I have arranged something with my friends at six o’clock?
Judge: Ok my boy, yes. The Court is prepared to proceed to sentencing.
…. – All rise please!
Judge: Taking into account all the evidence and the fact the defendant has no prior convictions, he has no history of junk food abuse and he is a minor, the Court cannot imprison the defendant. BUT, Andy Delavegas Garcia, is sentenced to a three-month consumption of the city's healthiest fruit, the grapefruit.
Andy: WHAT? But, no grapefruit….
Judge: Of course, he, and all the children at his age, must understand that we must eat healthy foods not because we are forced to or because the law says so…but because eating healthy foods is the best gift we can offer to ourselves. At the same time, he ia obliged to volunteer apple tree planting work in our city for one month….And last but not least, he has to help to the peeling off of the fruits offered in the school canteen…
Lawyer: Thank you your Honor….,but can we cut something out. Look at how cooperative my client is. And let's not forget he has got an A at Gymnastics.
Judge: Yeah ok, the punishment is reduced from 30 days to 28 of volunteer work. But under the condition that a similar incident will never happen again.
Andy to the judge: Okay I promise you ...
Andy whispering to himself: Ok, but first I will eat this burger I miss so many years!!!
Judge: Andy .. As we said. Cut off all this crap. And you have to understand that this is the right thing to do. The fact that we force you to eat the things that are the most nutritious for your body , we do it for your own good.. OK?
Andy: yeah sir .. okay .. and accept my apology one more time.
Judge: Okay .. go now, my child .. and be careful ..
Andy: Whatever you say. BYE…
Judge: Ok then, the case is closed!
